The Ethungahakotuwa Muslim community has been blessed with a mosque for over 100 years — one of the oldest Islamic landmarks in the region. The current structure, Al-Masjidul Hasaniya, was built approximately 40 years ago and registered with the Wakf Department (No. R-626-KU-71), serving the community with great blessing ever since.
Today, more than 1,000 families depend on this mosque for five daily prayers, Jummah, Madrasah, Tharbiyyah classes, and religious programmes for men, women, and children.
Due to space limitations and flooding during rains, worshippers face serious difficulty — especially during Jummah and Ramadan. A new two-storey mosque has been approved and construction is underway.
Congregational prayers held five times daily, strengthening unity and faith. Jummah is held in two congregations every Friday.
Comprehensive Quranic education for children — recitation, memorisation, and Islamic studies under qualified teachers.
Regular religious sermons and Tharbiyyah circles for men, women, and youth — covering Fiqh, Aqeedah, and contemporary guidance.
Friday congregational prayers with Khutbah (sermon). Two congregations to accommodate the growing number of worshippers.
Charity programmes, family assistance, and social welfare initiatives serving over 1,000 families in the Ethungahakotuwa village.
A new two-storey mosque with capacity for 2,000 worshippers is under construction. Foundation and pillars are complete. Your support is needed.
"The mosques of Allah shall be visited and maintained by such as believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity." — Surah At-Tawbah 9:18
