Al-Masjidul Hasaniya Jummah Mosque

"Purity Comes From Faith — Together We Build Our House of Worship."

Serving Faith, Knowledge & Community

The Al-Masjidul Hasaniyya Jummah Mosque in Ethungahakotuwa, Udubaddawa – Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala has a noble history of over 100 years. It has been rebuilt several times as our Muslim community grew, and the current mosque — built about 40 years ago and registered under the Wakf Department (Reg. No: R-626-KU-71) — has served us with great blessing.

Today, more than 1000 families depend on this mosque for five daily prayers, Jummah, Madrasah, Tharbiyyah classes, and religious programs for men, women, and children. However, due to space limitations and frequent flooding during rains, worshippers face serious difficulties, especially on Jummah and during Ramadan.

About Our Mosque

Serving Since 1971

The Ethungahakotuwa Muslim community has been blessed with a mosque for over 100 years, making it one of the oldest Islamic landmarks in the region. From humble beginnings, this sacred place has stood as a beacon of faith, unity, and community service for generations. Throughout its long history, the mosque has been rebuilt and renovated multiple times, adapting to the growing needs of the community. Around 40 years ago, the current structure—known as Al-Masjidul Hasaniyya and registered with the Wakf Department (Reg. No: R-626-KU-71)—was constructed with great effort and dedication from the village elders and community members. Over the years, further renovation and safety works were also undertaken to protect and preserve the mosque.

However, the growth of the Muslim population and the increase in religious activities, including Quranic Madrasah classes, have made the current structure insufficient. Today, more than 1000 families reside in this village, and the mosque regularly hosts: Five daily prayers Jummah prayers Religious sermons (Bayan for men & women) Tharbiyyah and Islamic learning programs Quranic Madrasah for children During Jummah and the blessed month of Ramadan, worshippers overflow outside due to lack of space. The situation becomes even more difficult during the rainy season when the surrounding area is prone to severe flooding, making worship extremely challenging. Recognizing this urgent need, the Jama’ath (village community) has unanimously decided to construct a new and larger mosque. Necessary approvals have already been obtained from the Urupaththawa Pradeshiya Sabha and the Department of Muslim Religious & Cultural Affairs.

The new mosque plan includes a two-storey structure, measuring 80 feet by 60 feet, with the capacity to accommodate approximately 2,000 worshippers. The estimated project cost is LKR 125 million (12.5 Crore). With the support and sacrifices of the local community, the foundation and exterior pillar works have already been completed. We now humbly seek assistance to complete the interior structure and finishing works, so that this house of Allah may soon serve the needs of future generations.
